Duration:
Approximately 24 weeks

Part time – 6:30pm – 8.30pm
Class location:
Class to be held online, Zoom being our online platform with tutor led learning. Access to a course specific Google Classroom, packed with videos and printable resources.
Access to our Student practice groups for twice weekly zoom practice sessions and local face to face meet-ups (not obligatory, for social and practise purposes).
Objectives
This qualification is designed to enable learners to communicate with Deaf people in British Sign Language (BSL) on a range of topics that involve simple, everyday language use.
Structure
The qualification is divided into 3 units each of which will be achieved separately throughout the academic year.
To achieve the full Level 1 Certificate in BSL, candidates are required to pass all three units:
- Unit 101 – Introduction to BSL
- Unit 102 – Conversational BSL
- Unit 103 – Communication in BSL about Everyday Life
Assessments
Unit BSL101 is internally assessed by the teacher/assessor. Units BSL102 and
BSL103 are externally assessed by a Signature assessor.

- 102. At home, people animals, objects Using numbers, Interests & activities, Weather
- 103. Getting around, Exchanging information, Refreshments Using numbers at School, College or Work

Costs
2025-The cost of the signature awarded course is £495.00 when paid in full. Payment plans are available on request.
2026-The cost of the signature awarded course is £525.00 when paid in full. Payment plans are available on request.
This cost covers all your lessons, handouts, feedback, access to the Google Classroom with vocabulary videos, tutor support, 3 exams and certificate. A deposit of £175.00 will secure you place, payment plans available on request.
