BSL NVQ Level 6 internal Verifier

I was born deaf and educated in two deaf schools. Originally started out as a Flat Machinist then Kitchen
Assistant going on to prep Chef working in a 5* hotel and also a cleaner in an office environment which led to
me gaining a qualification in Business Studies which lead to my role as Warrant Clerk in London. At the
same time teaching young hearing children through BSL stories when I was involved in performance and
community work for the Deaf Community which was thoroughly enjoyed.
Here, my love for teaching started in 1999 where I began with a Level 2 Teaching course with other deaf
learners, my teacher encouraged me to pursue my teaching career. Consequently, the ‘taste of teaching’
turned out to be extremely beneficial.

Needless to say I finally graduated as a Qualified Teacher at Bolton University in 2008. I am very proud of
my success and now put all my years of experience and teaching into practice through my business BSL
Ladder. BSL Ladder (Sole Trader Company) was established in 2008 as a centre registered with Signature providing
tuition in British Sign Language Level 1; Level 2; Level 3; Level 4 & NVQ6. Over the years Signature had
changed Level 3 to and from NVQ.

Aug 2010 I achieved Certification Level 3 Award in Assessing Candidates. Being able then to teach and
assess within my centre. Other achievements are BSL3 Teaching training; Level 6 NVQ BSL Qualification
Specification & Portfolio Building Training; Sociolinguistics; Advanced BSL Linguistics and BSL NVQ Level 3
& 4; Level 1 & 2 Certificate in BSL.

2011 Yours In BSL I established as a Community Interested Company to support Deaf people in gaining a
Qualification in their own language through funding and to teach and support hearing people/families
connected with a Deaf BSL user again through funding by way of grant application. An area that is greatly
under-supported. This company has received 4 years of funding through Awards For All and is becoming
sustainable.

During 2013 I became the first Deaf Tutor and registered centre (in the North West) with NOCN (National
Open College Network) teaching 6 Deaf students Prepare to Teach in Life Long Learning, all students gain
full qualification. A further course in 2016 : Level 4 Certificate in Education & Training again students also
gained full qualification.

December 2015 I achieved Certification in Level 4 Internal Quality Assurance Processes and Practice.
Currently I am teaching and assessing Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 with my IQA. Early 2018 I will be
carrying out the same roles in NVQ6 and CSW3.

yours sincerely
