Objectives

You will develop an ability to communicate with Deaf people using British Sign Language in a range of familiar contexts, participating in longer and more open-ended exchanges than at Level 1. The course will develop functional communication in BSL about a range of real life, routine and daily experiences. You will be able to deal with most routine language tasks and have sufficient grasp of grammar to cope with some non-routine tasks. There are 4 themes that will be taught:

Everyday Conversation (Mandatory)
Eating and Drinking (Optional)
Travel and Holidays (Optional)
Shopping and Spending (Optional)

Structure

The Level 2 Certificate in BSL from the Signature awarding body. The certificate is split into 3 units – BSL 201, BSL 202 And BSL 203. Each unit must be achieved to be awarded the full certificate.

Assessments

You will undergo an assessment for each of the 3 units. All the Units will be externally assessed.

Unit BSL 201 – Receptive Skills

You will watch a BSL narrative and answer multiple choice questions.

Unit BSL 202 – Productive Skills

You will sign a 3-4 minute presentation, based on one of the themes listed above.

Unit BSL 203 – Conversational Skills

You will have a 6-7 minute conversation with your tutor based on one of the themes listed above.

BSL 2 Qualification Specification

Prerequisites

You must be familiar with the Signature Level 1 BSL curriculum and you should hold a Signature Level 1 BSL Certificate.

Progression

You may progress onto a Pre level 3 course or Signature Level 3 Certificate in BSL (subject to an informal interview and a short assessment).

Costs

The cost of the signature awarded course is £725 when paid in full. Payment plans are available on request. This cost covers all your lessons, handouts, feedback paper, tutor support, 3 exams and certificate. A deposit will secure you place.
