I just want to say a big THANK YOU following my Zoom Level 3 course. I was a bit nervous since I had previously attended in person sessions at other centres. However, I need not have worried. I had a fantastic experience online with Janice. She is so dedicated and patient and nothing is too much trouble. I was delighted (and a bit surprised) to pass my Level 3 but it is all thanks to Janice and her lovely staff.
I did the foundation as a 1-2-1 with Alison. I thoroughly enjoyed the sessions, every week I learned something new and there was a lot of laughing as well. Also, on was a great tutor, very patient and understanding. There was no pressure to get everything perfectly right first time and very patient when I got it wrong. Alison challenged me the whole way through. The support from Alison was second to none. Would thoroughly recommend this foundation as a stepping-stone to level one. Can’t wait to start my level one in October and I’m getting myself prepped already!
I had 1-1 tuition sessions with Janice at the end of my last year at Heriot-Watt in 2021. This really helped to prepare me for my final exams and to feel more confident that I was ready to work as an interpreter upon graduating. We started with a conversation about what I wanted to achieve from my session, set some goals then worked on them each week. We did 6 weekly sessions between classes finishing and exams starting then a further 6 sessions fortnightly whilst I was graduating and setting up my business as a trainee interpreter. Janice was patient, kind and warm and pushed me to work on the skills that I wanted to polish up. I definitely recommended working with her.
Starting my Level 3 course I was very nervous, but this soon went away meeting the Sign Core team. The team’s professionalism, dedication and high-quality teaching provided unwavering support to the entire class and ensured no one felt left behind. Jan is an incredible teacher who cares about all her classes and provides 110% in every class she teaches.
Ellie and Kayley were always happy to support and provide a happy smile and fantastic encouragement for every exam! I could not recommend a better team than this one if you are looking to learn British Sign Language
Thank you so much ladies for your support this year. I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and a brilliant New Year, and I can’t wait to return to do Level 6 if there is an online course next year!
Wanted to say Thank You to You and your team. I have been learning Sign Language with you from foundation to Level 3. I started in a classroom and have moved to zoom due to the pandemic. Both have been beneficial, and I could not choose a favourite.
You have helped with my confidence as this is not a language I am learning for work or for people I know. Just a love for the language and inclusivity.
As an older student I have never felt left behind, I have made friends of all ages through the courses, and you have even given me the courage to Volunteer and travel to help deaf students in another country.
I never knew when I started where this would take me, but I’m loving it all and look forward to Level 6 in 2023.

BSL NVQ level 6 Janice and Ellie both do a great job. I have regularly spoken to my family and partner about the quality of the teaching and how much I have gained from the course so far; it is so different to the courses I have done before (in a good way!). They are there for us and provide much motivation, encouragement and positive feedback; again something I’ve not really experienced before on my BSL journey! It was valuable to sit and speak with Ellie about my portfolio and what steps I needed to take to finalise it as well as answering further questions when I had them. You can really see their passion for teaching and nurturing good quality interpreters of the future which is motivating in itself.
