I studied Level 3 from 2012 till 2013 under the expert, patient tuition and guidance of Janice Crossland-Jones. With the help of her PCA Michelle Lynn I found the course very informative and although a lot of work was involved I found it enjoyable and at the same time made a lot of new friends who all act like a support network.
Janice has not only contributed to a greater understanding and awareness of the Deaf community and it’s ways and needs, but has also contributed to my raised confidence levels, so much so that I should soon be, hopefully, volunteering at the college assisting new learners to BSL Levels 1 and 2.
Although this course does involve a lot of independent work and a lot of self-organization I have always felt supported at every step by Janice and Michelle and they always guided me in the right direction if I started to drift.
I do and will always try and get as many people involved in sign language and the Deaf community as possible, but I also try to encourage them not to stop at level 2 as the Deaf community needs more people who can sign to a high level to help them communicate with the hearing world and to break down the barriers between both, hopefully with people like Janice around this may eventually happen.
I would recommend this course to anyone and I would also tell him or her not to look anywhere else for a course provider, as they would not provide a better tutor than Janice.
